Life on board

This room tells how the crew, of 172, lived aboard the frigate. Until 1977the number of the crew was 202 men. This was before the Navy has female crew. The seamen lived at 4 orlop deck. One for each of the frigate's four divisions: (weapon, supply- and administration, engineering and operation division. Officers and sergeants / staff sergeant had single or double cabins. The exception was the captain, who had a living room with dining and working area, a sleeping room and a private bathroom.

What did the crew do in their spare time? What did they eat? What were the leisure activities during the long cruises with NATO's standing naval forces in the Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT), which often lasted about 3 months? At such cruises the crew was expanded with a chaplain, dentist and an experienced medical officer.

What happened, if a crew member had rebelled against the rules on board? The Captain could impose various penalties. From denial of shore leave to guards arrest. The latter meant that you for a period had to stay in the frigates prison.
