HDMS Peder Skram is given new life

Together with its sister ship, HDMS Herluf Trolle, HDMS Peder Skram had its life extended by a so-called mid-life-update taking place during the period 1977-79 at Helsingør Shipyard, where the frigates were built. The 30 million DKK invested in each frigate called for several updates of the systems onboard.

Most important was that the Navy had entered the "missile age", so surface missiles (HARPOON) as well as surface to air missiles (Sea Sparrow) were installed. The latter system since 1968 had been developed in a cooperation between the US, Italy, Norway and Denmark.

In the Ops-room of the Frigate the old manual plotting systems based on China markers and Plexiglass state boards were replaced by computer-based plotting and information systems, CEPLO (Computerized Electronic Plotting System). And thereby the Navy had entered the computer age.
